Barn Name: The Guide
Reference: What We Do In The Shadows
Hello. I am The Guide. Yes, The Guide. It is a title, and I think we can all agree that titles should be respected. I am a 10-year-old, 16 hand grade bay mare, and I came to Wrenacyn in February of last year after being purchased from T.H.A.N.K.S.-A-LOT Farm in West Virginia. Before that, I was an Amish horse until a lovely couple decided I deserved a different sort of life and gave me the opportunity to become the horse I was apparently always meant to be. While at T.H.A.N.K.S.-A-LOT, I evented and foxhunted, was demonstrating training-level dressage, and schooled through Beginner Novice in Cross-Country, and demonstrated a natural ability to remain calm in the presence of mud, water, hills, ditches, hounds, sheep, cars, and various other things that seem to cause humans unnecessary concern.
Since arriving at Wrenacyn, I have continued to demonstrate that I am a rather useful horse to have around. I have competed with the Wrenacyn competition team and carried multiple riders to respectable finishes, taken part in clinics, and proven myself to be an excellent trail horse. I am also one of our lead mares, which means that I have somehow become responsible for helping manage the group of very large bays. This is not a responsibility I requested but someone has to do it. Nadja, in particular, has a great deal of enthusiasm and several strong opinions, so I have learned that the most effective approach is simply to remain calm and continue walking in the direction we are supposed to be going.
I have also acquired a boyfriend, Gizmo. He is a dark bay Thoroughbred and while I am fond of him, I do occasionally wonder how I have ended up being the sensible one in this relationship. Still, we get along very well and I am happy to have him around. I suppose every Guide needs someone to guide.
I was a little wary when I first arrived here, because I prefer to take my time deciding whether people are trustworthy. However, once I have made that determination, I am an exceptionally sweet mare. I love massages and rubs, and I am quite happy to stand quietly and enjoy being fussed over. I have smooth gaits, excellent feet, am sound, have no vices, and do all of this barefoot, although I would prefer not to make too much of a fuss about my credentials. I am simply the sort of horse who goes out, does the job, and tries very hard to do what is being asked of her.
So if you are looking for me, I will probably be somewhere in the middle of everything, quietly keeping things organized, looking after my herd, checking on Gizmo, and making sure Nadja has not wandered off to do something unnecessarily dramatic. This is not glamorous work, but someone has to do it. And really, that is what being The Guide is all about.
You are welcome to follow me. I generally know where I am going.
